Environment Bank raising Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) Units in Milton Keynes to meet demand

Work has now started to create a new Habitat Bank in Milton Keynes, from which we will supply BNG Units for regional developments and offset biodiversity loss. Planting has begun at the 94-acre site in Milton Keynes and is being welcomed by developers in the surrounding areas requiring BNG Units to fulfil their legal obligations in time for the January 2024 BNG transition period ending.

As the end of the BNG transition period is getting closer, developers across England are becoming increasingly more aware of their obligation to achieve the BNG requirement for their projects, meaning that demand is growing for our high-quality units across England.

Our expert ecologists are working in partnership with a local landowner to restore biodiversity to a working farm and family-run campsite in Emberton. The Habitat Bank will link with local ancient woodland and attract native species not currently present or breeding within the site. Overall, this will lead to a more biologically diverse landscape that will help to increase local air quality and mitigate the risk of floods.

On the project, principal ecologist, Sophie Moy said:

“The Milton Keynes Habitat Bank promises to deliver landscape-scale nature recovery. Through the creation of a mosaic of species-rich grassland, native mixed scrub, and hedgerows we will be creating habitats capable of supporting richer and more abundant biodiversity, contributing to restoring biodiversity at a local level.”

BNG Units planting Milton Keynes

Demand has surged for our high-quality BNG Units, so we would urge any developers in the planning stage of their projects to get in touch and express interest now.

Wood Farm is just one example of how our nationwide Habitat Bank product can provide an end-to-end solution to offsite BNG. Developers can purchase or reserve the necessary BNG Units ahead of time and through Environment Bank, deliver a co-ordinated, efficient, and risk-free solution, that meets the needs of the development for the minimum 30 year term.
